QTenders is the primary channel for Queensland Health, Department of Education and Housing and Public Works electrical packages, with much of the work sitting inside building services and maintenance categories. Councils advertise independently — Brisbane City Council, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Townsville and Cairns all run their own processes, and regional councils frequently use VendorPanel for smaller quotations. Solar and energy efficiency programs are sometimes delivered through separate program bodies rather than the central portal. Defence electrical work at Townsville, Amberley and Enoggera appears on AusTender.

Queensland electrical pricing lives and dies on access and distance. School work is concentrated into holiday periods, which compresses programmes and drives overtime — price the calendar constraint, not just the labour hours. Regional multi-site contracts need explicit travel, accommodation and vehicle allowances. For solar programs, be precise about who owns performance risk and metering approvals, because network connection timeframes with Energex and Ergon can extend well beyond your installation programme and hold up practical completion.

A Queensland electrical contractor licence from the Electrical Safety Office is the baseline. Depending on scope you may also need Clean Energy Council accreditation for solar and batteries, Energex or Ergon accreditation for network connection work, and QBCC licensing where the electrical work forms part of building work above threshold.
Because most switchboard, supply and air conditioning work cannot be done safely or practically while students are on site. That compresses delivery into holiday windows, which means tighter programmes, more overtime and less tolerance for delay. Price the schedule constraint explicitly and confirm access windows during the tender period.
They can be strong work, particularly at council level and on single-site installations. The commercial risk to watch is network connection: Energex and Ergon approval timeframes are outside your control but often sit inside your contractual programme. Clarify who carries that delay risk before you commit to a completion date.
Monitor individual council portals, since regional councils tender independently of QTenders and many use VendorPanel for quotations under threshold. Regional contracts frequently attract very few compliant bidders, so systematic monitoring of the councils in your service radius is usually the highest-return activity available.
