What is the AskTender MCP?+
AskTender is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI assistants real-time access to Australian government tenders and contract awards across all 8 jurisdictions we cover. It exposes 21 tools for searching, analysing, and exporting procurement data.
How do I connect AskTender to ChatGPT or Claude?+
Sign up for a free API key, then add AskTender as an MCP connector in your AI's settings. Paste the server URL with your key on the end (https://mcp.asktender.com.au/<your-api-key>) — that's how the connector authenticates. Full step-by-step guides are available for both ChatGPT and Claude.
Is AskTender free?+
Every account starts with 25 free API requests as a one-time trial — no credit card required. It doesn't reset monthly. After that it's $299/month + GST for all 21 tools, alerts and CSV exports, with a 10,000 requests/month fair-use allowance.
What data does AskTender cover?+
AskTender aggregates live tender and contract award data from AusTender (federal), plus NSW, QLD, VIC, WA, TAS, NT, and ACT state portals. SA coverage is coming soon. Over 90,000 awards and thousands of open tenders are available.
Can I set up automated alerts?+
Yes. Use the create_watch tool to save search criteria (keywords, jurisdiction, category, value range) and receive automated email briefings at 7:00 AM AEST when new matching tenders or awards are published.
Can I export data to CSV?+
Yes. The export_tenders_csv and export_awards_csv tools let you export up to 500 rows of filtered search results as CSV files, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.
