Australian government contract awards — who won what

Tender portals tell you what is open. They are far worse at telling you what already happened. These pages cover 371,095 contract awards across 388 government buyers and 1803 suppliers — which agency bought what, from whom, for how much, and when.

Why award history beats a tender alert

Before you spend three days on a submission, it is worth knowing whether the agency has bought this before, who they bought it from, roughly what they paid, and whether one incumbent has held the work for six years. That is what award history answers, and it is the difference between bidding and guessing.

What this data covers — and what it doesn't

We would rather tell you the gaps than let you find them yourself.

Covered: Federal (AusTender), NSW, QLD, WA, NT, TAS and ACT award notices, with the buying agency named on every record.

Victoria is not on these pages. We hold tens of thousands of VIC contract records, but VIC's published award notices do not carry the buyer or supplier name in the list data — those sit only on individual detail pages we have not yet crawled. Rather than publish thousands of near-empty VIC pages, we have left VIC out until that crawl is done.

South Australia has no award data here. We do not yet ingest SA procurement at all, so no SA agencies or suppliers appear.

NT supplier names are patchy. NT publishes the buying agency on all its award notices but names the winning supplier on only about a quarter of them. Where the supplier is not published, the agency page says so rather than showing an empty table.

Some contract values are withheld. QLD award notices carry no contract value at all, and a number of notices in other jurisdictions record a nil or token amount where the real figure is confidential. Those show as "not disclosed" — never as "$0", which would wrongly imply the work was free.

Every figure on these pages comes from official government award notices, and each listed contract links to its source notice. Award pages are regenerated from the live database, so counts move as new notices are published.

Frequently asked questions

Where does AskTender's contract award data come from?+

Official government contract award notices, published by the buying agencies themselves — AusTender for federal contracts, plus the NSW, QLD, WA, NT, TAS and ACT tender portals. We link to the source notice for every contract shown.

Can I see which suppliers a specific government agency uses?+

Yes. Every buyer page lists that agency's top suppliers by contract value, along with its largest contracts, spend by year and the full date range we hold. Browse them from the buyers index.

Why isn't Victoria included in these award pages?+

VIC's published award notices do not include the buyer or supplier name in the list data — that information only appears on individual contract detail pages, which we have not yet crawled. We would rather leave VIC out than publish thousands of pages with the key fields missing.

Why do some contracts show "not disclosed" instead of a value?+

Because the value genuinely is not published. QLD award notices carry no contract value at all, and some notices elsewhere record a nil or token figure where the real amount is confidential. We show "not disclosed" rather than "$0", which would falsely suggest the contract was free.

How do I query this award data directly?+

Connect AskTender to ChatGPT or Claude and ask in plain English — for example, "who are the biggest suppliers to the Department of Defence?" or "what has this agency awarded in the last year?" You get the same underlying data these pages are built from.

Ask who won what — in plain English.
