WA's mid-year school building program is the headline
Western Australia's Department of Housing and Works — the delivery agency for the state's school builds — has released its 2026 mid-year construction program as three distinct packages, all closing on 11 August:

- 2026 Mid-Year Modular Building Construction — Fifteen GLA Transportable Buildings, the classic transportable classroom package.
- 2026 Mid-Year Modular Building Construction — Five Kindy Pre-primary Buildings and Ten Toilet Blocks.
Behind the program work sits a steady stream of individual school jobs: Harrisdale Senior High School — Stage 3 Additions closes 13 August, Henley Brook Primary School — Installation of 4 GLA, Walkway and Access Ramp closes 11 August, and Holland Street School — Access Upgrade Works 2026 and Scaddan Primary School — Installation of 1 x GLA Classroom both close 7 August. The NT wants a whole new school built
The biggest single education job on the board is in the Northern Territory. The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure is running a Design, Document and Construct tender for the New Palmerston Secondary Special Education School at Rosebery, closing 11 August. In the same fortnight it is also seeking two new transportable classrooms at Milingimbi School in East Arnhem (closes 12 August) and a new hybrid solar and battery system with diesel generator for M'Bunghara School near Alice Springs (closes 13 August) — a reminder that remote-area school work often pairs construction with energy and electrical scopes.
Tasmania is quietly assembling a school construction pipeline
Tasmania's tender board reads like a forward works program for the whole education estate. Newly listed future opportunities include the North West Support School — New Devonport Campus, the North West Support School — Burnie Redevelopment, the South George Town Primary School Major Redevelopment, the Westbury Early Childhood Education and Care Centre, the East Derwent Primary School Redevelopment at the Jordan River Learning Federation, the Dorset Child and Family Learning Centre, and even Teacher Residences on Flinders Island. Most are flagged as future opportunities rather than open RFTs, which makes them exactly the kind of early signal worth diarising now — the builders who win these will be the ones who saw them months out.

Queensland, NSW, Victoria and the ACT round it out
Queensland's Department of Education has the Roma State College — Colocation of Junior Campus to Middle Campus head contractor tender (eligible PQC contractors, closes 6 August) and the Mountain Creek State School Multipurpose Court Upgrade (closes 6 August), while QBuild is tendering asbestos removal and rectification works at Ayr State High School (closes 13 August).
In NSW, School Infrastructure has an unusual one: an Expression of Interest for Demountable Recycling, closing 7 August — a circular-economy play for the state's ageing demountable fleet. Victoria's Department of Education is buying services rather than bricks, with Administration and Data Collection of School-based Surveys closing 7 August. And in the ACT, Infrastructure Canberra is tendering the Electrification of Gas Assets at Wanniassa Hills Primary School, closing 11 August — part of the territory's gas transition, and a genuine electrical and HVAC opportunity dressed up as a school job.
The pattern: small parcels, repeat buyers, trade-friendly scopes
Three things stand out. First, most of this work is parcelled small — a classroom block here, a court resurface there — which suits regional builders and trade contractors, not just tier-ones. Second, the buyers repeat: WA's Department of Housing and Works, the NT's Department of Logistics and Infrastructure and Queensland's Department of Education publish school work week after week, so a lost bid this month is market intelligence for the next one. Third, the scopes increasingly blend disciplines — solar-plus-battery at M'Bunghara, gas electrification at Wanniassa Hills, demountable recycling in NSW — so trades that can pair with a builder have an edge.
