While last week's roundups focused on deadlines, this one is about beginnings. In the past seven days, 179 new government tenders were published across Australia — out of 664 currently open nationally in the AskTender database. WA published the most (36), followed by Queensland (32), NSW (28), Victoria (12), federal agencies (11), the NT (7), Tasmania (6) and the ACT (2).

NSW: from Vivid Sydney to a rainforest skywalk
The NSW pipeline delivered the most varied batch. The eye-catcher is Proposed Dorrigo Skywalk D&C from NSW Public Works — a design-and-construct contract for an elevated walkway in Dorrigo's World Heritage rainforest, closing 20 October 2026. Alongside it, NSW Public Works also opened its Scheme for Consultants in Construction up to $9M Consultancy Fee, a long-running standing scheme that stays open until December 2028 — a rare chance for consultancies to get on the books without a deadline sprint.
Event and infrastructure work features too. Destination NSW wants Vivid Sydney — Crane Services (closing 25 August), Sydney Metro published WSA Finalisation and Auxiliary Works — Corridor Restoration Works — Seed Procurement for revegetating the Western Sydney Airport corridor (17 September), and Transport Infrastructure Projects released the Menangle Road Upgrade — Concept Design and Environmental Study Services brief (31 August).
On the technology side, the NSW Telco Authority opened a market engagement for Network Switching, Firewall Security Hardware, Software and Support (28 August) — a strong early signal for IT and ICT suppliers — while HealthShare NSW is running a major Nuclear Medicine and Associated Equipment and Maintenance request for tender, closing 7 October.
Queensland: health infrastructure in the far north
Queensland's new listings skew heavily to construction and regional health. Health Infrastructure Queensland published the Cooktown Multi-Purpose Health Service Redevelopment — Enabling Works — Civil Contractor package (closing 31 August), and Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service released two remote builds: Staff Accommodation Structural Repairs and Re-Roof at Lockhart River and Kowanyama Housing Roof Replacements, both closing 31 August.
Energy Queensland is buying Substation Battery Chargers (27 August) — worth a look for electrical suppliers — and QBuild opened the Monto SHS Block A Stage One Refurbishment (26 August) for regional builders.
Victoria: water utilities keep spending
Victoria's water authorities dominated the state's new listings. Greater Western Water published the Melton RWP Potable Water Services Upgrade (9 September), Gippsland Water wants the Construction of a DN450 Polyethylene Water Main at Drouin West (16 September), and Barwon Water opened the Construction of Montpellier Basins Monitoring Building and Associated Civil Works (23 September). Southern Rural Water added Cowwarr Weir Switchboard Electrical Upgrades (23 September).

Federal: nuclear science, decommissioning and Drupal
The federal batch is small but heavyweight. ANSTO published the ILWCI+ Principal Construction Contract (7 September), a principal contractor role at Australia's nuclear science precinct. The Department of Industry, Science and Resources released two notable briefs: Develop Generic Geological Disposal Concepts and Facility Design (10 September) and the Northern Endeavour Decommissioning Program Phase 3A — LamCor Subsea Infrastructure Recovery (23 October), part of the long-running offshore oil vessel decommissioning effort.
For digital suppliers, the Department of Finance opened a Provision for Drupal and Digital Experience Platform Services tender (7 October), and Services Australia wants an NDIA Salesforce Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution (8 September).
NT and ACT: small markets, steady work
The NT published seven new tenders, including Power and Water Corporation's Physical Protective Security Capability Uplift expression of interest (11 September) and the Flightpath Road Berrimah — Construction of DN300 Water Main in Darwin (15 September). The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure also opened a Tennant Creek Region Panel Contract for Building Repairs and Maintenance of government buildings (21 September).
In Canberra, the City and Environment Directorate wants the Supply, Installation and Ongoing Support of an Intelligent Transport System (15 September), and Canberra Health Services published a Hygiene Services tender closing 8 September.
The pattern this week: panels and early notices
Two threads run through this week's listings. First, panels and standing schemes: NSW's construction consultants scheme, V/Line's traffic management panel, the NT's building maintenance panel. Panels are the quiet compounders of government work — getting on one early means being invited to quote for years without re-tendering.
